The Mission
Creating a healthier future by empowering current generations with the best contraception and preconception care, guaranteeing that every newborn is a deliberate, informed, and healthy choice rather than an unintended consequence due to inadequate information or limited resources.
Problem
The effectiveness of preconception care has already been demonstrated in the Netherlands by many studies, as well as by the RIVM. A small recent Dutch study showed that one preconception care consult resulted in savings of 1.3 million euros, by only preventing smoking and informing about using folic acid. It prevented growth retardation and neural tube defect. A bigger study in the US in 2010 showed that investing in preconception care averted an estimated 2.2 million unplanned pregnancies and resulted in savings of $13.6 billion. However, contraception and preconception care is ineffective, neglected and dreadful, resulting in: - Unintended pregnancies: globally, nearly half of all pregnancies are unintended, with the Netherlands experiencing a rate of 1 in 5 unintended pregnancies. - Generations trapped in poor health: every child born is at high risk of being trapped in poor health, as Dutch couples nowadays have an average of 6 risk factors for an unhealthy pregnancy, such as stress, poverty, unhealthy lifestyle, and obesity. These cycles of generations being trapped in poor health, results from a lack of awareness, a lack of knowledge and barriers to interventions, for example, not having enough money for contraception or healthy food.
The Solution
We want to improve contraception and preconception care by completely transforming and digitalizing this care with proactive screening, education, consultation, and appropriate interventions, with an AI-powered, data-driven, evidence-based platform. We believe that investing in healthier generations keeps healthcare affordable and accessible, promotes socio-economic growth, contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals, and ultimately leads to a better world for everyone.
