The Mission

Our mission is to raise awareness of gendered language usage's harmful consequences and to provide alternative phrasing that fosters inclusivity in writing and thinking.

Problem

The unconscious and legitimized use of gendered and non-inclusive language perpetuates a patriarchal mindset, reinforcing stereotypes and exacerbating real-life inequalities. This androcentric perspective often goes unnoticed, yet it continues to shape societal attitudes and power dynamics.

The Solution

“They” is a browser extension designed to promote inclusive language through four key steps: 1. Analysing written content in real-time 2. Identifying and flagging inadequate employment of gendered terms/expressions 3. Suggesting inclusive and alternative phrasing 4. Explaining why the suggestion is made Our project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals by promoting inclusive education (SDG 4), advancing gender equality (SDG 5), and reducing inequalities (SDG 10).
